Rockford, IL— February 25, 2013— Rosie Blackshire is an occasional Lottery player and likes the instant game Veterans Cash. But when she went to the store late one evening to quickly get a soda she did not plan to buy a lottery ticket. “I was actually on my way out the door when something told me to turn around, go over to the machine, and purchase a Lottery ticket,” she said. The lucky Rockford resident bought a $1 Cash for Life instant ticket and won $500 a Week for Life.
“I’ve been praying for some financial relief … and here it is!” she exclaimed. Blackshire is a disabled United States Army Veteran who served in Iraq, Korea and Afghanistan during her military career. She and her fiancée currently rent an apartment. “Now, because of this Lottery win, we can buy a house,” she said. Blackshire also plans to pay bills. She chose to take her prize as the one-time cash option of $380,000.
The winning ticket was purchased at Marathon, 3299 South Alpine Road in Rockford. The store received a $3,800 bonus, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket.
The Lottery offers a number of versions of the Cash for Life instant game including games with top prizes of $500, $1,000, $2,500 and $5,000 a-week-for-life. The newest member of the Cash for Life family, 20X20, offers a top prize of $20,000 a week for 20 years. For more information, please visit www.illinoislottery.com.
