DARIEN LOTTO TICKET WINS $1 MILLION PRIZE
Revamped Local Lotto Game Welcomes Another Illinois Millionaire
CHICAGO—Earlier this year, the Illinois Lottery made changes to its Lotto game giving players two additional chances to win a $1 million jackpot prize with every drawing.
The additional Lotto Millions Jackpot 1 draw on June 19 made one Illinois Lottery player’s Saturday night a whole lot sweeter after they struck the $1 million jackpot. This winning ticket was purchased at Citgo gas station at 402 W. Plainfield Rd., in Darien.
This moment marks the second time a Lotto player in Illinois has become an overnight millionaire in the past few months after winning one of the additional Lotto draws. This winner is following in the footsteps of the first-ever Lotto Millions Jackpot 1 win on Saturday April 10. That winning ticket was purchased at BP gas station, at 10 E. Northbrook Dr., in Dwight.
Although the winner has yet to come forward to claim their prize, Bill McCloskey, Chief Operating Officer of RMart who manages the Citgo gas station where the winning ticket was sold, was excited to share the news that the winner is a regular customer who has been frequenting their store for quite some time. “We are very excited and happy for him,” shares McCloskey.
This win marks the second million-dollar winning ticket sold at this longtime Illinois Lottery retailer, who has been selling tickets since 1993. “We sold another one about 10 years ago as well. So I think that should make us a ‘lucky store!”’ exclaims McCloskey.
The retailer also shares that he feels local support by the neighboring community is what really sets this store apart.
“The Darien store is the true definition of a ‘neighborhood store’, as it is tucked in a residential neighborhood and park, where we get a lot of foot traffic from local residents,” says McCloskey. “The best part of selling Illinois Lottery is the customer loyalty that it brings to our store. We depend a lot on one-on-one interactions with our customers and that is what selling lottery does. It helps us to get to see our customers regularly and it is a bonus when we sell a big winner like this one.”
This Lotto win is also a win for the store, which will receive a 1% bonus of $10,000 for selling the winning ticket.
“This couldn't have come at a better time,” shares McCloskey, “Given the struggles we had during Covid, nothing could be more timely, and we will put the money back into the site with some much needed improvements.”
The Illinois Lottery urges the winner to sign the back of their ticket and keep it in a safe place until they are ready to claim their prize. The winner has one year from the date of the draw to claim and additional guidelines to claim prizes can be found on the When You Win page on the Illinois Lottery website.
Lotto is an Illinois-only game that is played three times a week on Monday, Thursday and Saturday, giving players multiple chances to win the multi-million dollar jackpot each week, as well as two additional chances to win a million dollars with every draw. The current jackpot continues to roll and the top game prize on offer has reached $7.4 million for the next draw tomorrow, Thursday, July 1 at 9:22 p.m. CT.
